World Book Day Statistics: How The UK Is Enjoying Books In 2021

As part of World Book Day 2021, Cartridge People has been looking into the nation's reading habits and how books are enjoyed in 21st Century Britain.

From the most popular children's books to the literary works that inspired Oscar winners, the below infographic has been put together along with a Cartridge People study which found that:

  • 20% of Brits now opt for an e-reader rather than a paper book.
  • 4 in 10 UK residents spend less than one hour per week reading or listening to books
  • 1 in 10 18-34 year olds confessed to reading for more than 14 hours a week
  • A third of people stated that they were reading more than they were in February 2020
  • One in 10 people in the 18-44 age group much prefer listening to an audiobook than traditional reading.
  • Over three quarters of women prefer to read the book itself as opposed to a digital or audio version
