What Do They Eat in Space?

The following infographic covers the most important aspects of food for astronauts. It shows the evolution of space food (from tasteless, pureed food to advanced meal packaging and food that tastes delicious), gives you a glimpse of how the food is prepared aboard the spacecraft, and shows a list of conditions that space meals must meet. For example, all food for astronauts is dehydrated so it can be packed tightly and not take up too much space. Also, it must be lightweight and not burden the craft. In order for the International Space Station crew to survive for long stretches of time on space missions without experiencing psychological crisis, it is very important that food for astronauts continues to improve, and that is exactly what NASA and other space scientists are doing. Take a look at the graphic and see what it’s really like to have meals far away from Earth.
